Here’s a video of the Aventador LP 750-4 SV breaking seven minutes (only just) at the Nürburgring. For context, the 918’s time was 6:57. As for the LaFerrari and the P1? hmm... well? In that company, the SV is a bargain.

Kinja'd!!!

There are definitely some clench-worthy moments and some air-time, my favorite being at the section starting at about 5:20 on the video.

I guess it shouldn’t be SUCH a surprise. If anyone knows how to make an AWD mid engined sports car go fast around a German track its Audi. Still, since when are Lamborghini’s serious track cars?! Who replaced the cocaine with cocaine with race gas...

Well they have always done “upgraded”/hardcore versions of their cars, this just being the latest in a long line of SV’s. With VAG’s backing and stiffer competition, I suppose they needed to raise the bar for themselves.

Also, Porsche seems to be pretty good at AWD mid (and rear) engine supercars. Lamborghini basically matched their performance for half the price.

This all makes me pretty excited to see the Huracán SV and later RWD versions that are inevitable. I’m kinda over Ferarri for the most part, count me on team Lambo.

I’m guessing the SV isn’t that far off the 918 powerwise, but should be quite a bit lighter, and as we’ve seen numerous times light weight is key to good Nordschleifen times.

Officially the SV has 750hp and weighs 3,362lbs dry (so maybe about 3,500lbs wet). The 918 is rated at 887hp total and weighs 3,620 lb dry (so maybe 3,800lbs wet) with the Weissach pack. So yeah, the power to weight is fairly comparable

Wonder who the driver was...? Appears not to be that familiar with the Nordschleife. Seems to be turning much too early to all too important right turns. Made at least 4 mistakes that I can see. #1, after the first long straigh, past the first twisty section and the double apex turn after the long dip. Again, #2, after the seriously fast right-hander that leads to the sharp left and down to Adenau. Does good job from there all the way to the top but LIFTS twice where he did not had to. Did a good job not lifting at the left kink at the very end of the long straigt. Most people do.

Yeah, I saw a few mistakes, but with a car that fast and powerful, I can forgive a few mistakes. The car might not be fully dialed in either. That left kink at the end has to be terrifying at ~200mph.

Don’t know who the driver was, but they do have some great cars from the Blancpain and Super Trofeo series.

Also remember that Lamborghini has teams racing in the Blancpain Endurance series and they have the one make Super Trofeo series.

If this was semi-pro taking the ride around, perhaps. But not if this was an official atempt by Lambhorgini SpA. Was it? At least that Lambo crest at the end made it looking so...

You’d think these days anyone wanting to set a car’s time would have not only the track memorized, but their car’s optimum run. It’s not like you need hundreds of hours of track time, when you can just sim it ten times a day for a month to learn every corner and brake zone, exceed the car’s limits without danger or damage, then go into your real life runs basically dialing in the last few seconds.

But maybe he’s just a good driver with access to a crazy car who decided to give it a try and doesn’t care about getting the absolute perfect run to put in a chart against Porsche etc.

Well put - AGREE 100%! Most likely a semi-pro having a good time. Surely good place to do it. Not on weekends, though... Beautiful Fall days are BEST to visit and drive the N-Ring, IMHO. A dinner at Sabine Schmitz’s family place is a must too! Boy, can that lady drive !!!

I would think it was an official time. The car hasn’t been released to the public and it’s on their official YouTube channel.

The kink at the end of the long straight at that speed, it’s quite OK, actually. As with any relatively high speed corners, the correct placement of the car on entry is of importance. This being just a kink, not as much. But it’s still important not to upset the car in any way. Smooth, on the power execution is the best, IMHO.

Quite surprising than... Must not have been important to them, I presume. Surely Frank, now Head of PORSCHE Motorsport for his 918 development efforts

Let’s face it, this is a fucking insane time for a street legal Lamborghini anything. Not only that you get a pants-creaming soundtrack to boot.

Time to pull out GT6 and see if i can get over my dislike of AWD.

I learned to love AWD while playing hundreds of hours of GT over the years. AWD on tarmac is definitely a “slow in, fast out” thing. Do all your breaking early, stay tight to the corner and apex and just after the apex, floor it. You may need to tweak you camber and ride height depending on the car and track. Focus on dropping weight and suspension and drivetrain upgrades, power last. Lots of downforce on the front can help on faster tracks.

But yeah, the SV is pretty amazing. But, our old pal Jonny Liberman has alluded to the new Viper ACR setting some type of record.
